It is easy to fall for St. Augustine on a weekend. Deciding where you would want to live takes a few different stops. Keep the bayfront stroll, absolutely—but add a neighborhood park, a grocery run and the drive you would make on a working day.
Choose two routes for your two days: a historic walking loop, an island outing or a mainland routine. Each has three useful stops, with directions ready for your phone. These are starting points around St. Augustine and southern St. Johns County, not a ranking of every neighborhood.

Pick the places you are curious about. Leave enough space to notice how they feel.
Have an easy dinner near your lodging. Choose two routes and write down three things that matter in everyday life.
Try the historic loop if you want a morning museum visit; Lincolnville Museum opens at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday–Saturday. Or start the island route early and leave room for lunch.
Compare your second route, then revisit the area that interested you most. If you saved the museum for Sunday, its listed opening time is 1 p.m.
Test the trip to your actual work destination at your departure time. Include the return drive and any bridge crossing you would rely on.
Where should we stay?
Stay near the experience you most want to try. A downtown base makes the historic walk easier to repeat; an island base gives you a different morning. Ask about overnight parking and all lodging charges before booking. The historic garage rates below are for that scouting stop, not a promise about your hotel parking.

Historic streets & Lincolnville
Park once, walk south to the Plaza, then continue into Lincolnville before returning to the garage. This route pairs the familiar historic center with a museum that adds essential local context. Wear comfortable shoes and adjust the loop for your group’s mobility and the weather.

Historic Downtown Parking Facility

Start at the garage and the nearby visitor information area. Before heading south, take a moment to look at your full walking loop. The first useful lesson is what arriving, parking and walking into town actually involves.

Plaza de la Constitución
170 St. George Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084Allow 30–45 minutes
Walk through the Plaza between King Street and Cathedral Place. Pause by the public monuments, then look toward the bayfront and Bridge of Lions. Leave a little room for the classic view before you turn toward residential streets.

The public Plaza is free to visit. Nearby street parking is metered; this route leaves your car at the garage. Events can change how the space is used.
Lincolnville Museum & Cultural Center
102 M. L. King Avenue, St. Augustine, FL 32084Allow 45–75 minutes with museum visit
Make time for the museum’s account of local African American history, then take a respectful walk on the surrounding public sidewalks. This stop adds context to a neighborhood that deserves more than a quick drive-by.
TRY THIS WHILE YOU’RE HEREAfter the museum, notice the transition from visitor destinations to homes. Stay on public paths and avoid treating private porches or yards as photo stops.

Listed hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Sunday–Monday 1–4:30 p.m. Admission: adults $10; seniors 60+ and military $9; youth 7–17 and college students with ID $5. Check the museum for other categories and current access.

Choose lunch along the walk or near your return to the garage. Look at the actual menu and opening hours before committing; the best scouting lunch is one that lets you pause and compare notes.
One thing to check twice.
Check the exact home’s parking situation and the walk to everyday needs. A picturesque street can have a very different routine during a busy event weekend.
ROUTE 02 · Anastasia State Park · Ron Parker · St. Augustine Beach
Island mornings & beach routines
Begin with the protected shoreline setting at Anastasia State Park, then drive south for a neighborhood park and a practical public beach-access stop. You are comparing different kinds of outdoor time on the island, with a car trip between each.

Enter the state park, follow signs to the day-use area and take the beach walk that suits your group. Notice the difference between this protected setting and a more developed beach approach. Stay on designated crossings over the dunes.

Open 8 a.m. to sundown, 365 days a year. Admission: $8 per vehicle up to eight people; $4 for a single-occupant vehicle; $2 per pedestrian or bicyclist. Rentals cost extra. Check current alerts and conditions. The map pin is the park destination; follow day-use signs after the entrance.
Ron Parker Park
607 Old Beach Road, St. Augustine, FL 32080Allow 25–40 minutes
This shaded county park gives the outing a more ordinary neighborhood pause. The county lists playscapes, courts, a dog park and picnic areas. Choose the space you would use instead of trying to see everything.

St. Johns County Ocean Pier Park
350 A1A Beach Boulevard, St. Augustine Beach, FL 32080Allow 30–45 minutes
Finish at the surrounding park and public beach approach. Look at the parking-to-sand routine, restrooms and outdoor showers. This is a useful comparison with the state park, even while the fishing pier itself is closed.

Fishing pier CLOSED for repairs until further notice as checked September 12, 2026. The county says the park and gift shop remain open. Use current park notices for available facilities and posted parking rules. Do not plan on walking or fishing from the closed pier.
Make room for lunch.
Build lunch into the St. Augustine Beach end of the route. Check the restaurant’s hours and legal parking, then see how the stop works from an address you are considering.
One thing to check twice.
As of our September 12, 2026 research, the county’s ocean fishing pier is closed for repairs until further notice. The surrounding park and beach-access stop are the outing here; check the county update before visiting.
ROUTE 03 · Wildwood Drive · U.S. 1 South · Vaill Point
Mainland parks & everyday errands
Head south of the historic center for an intentionally ordinary route: recreation, an errand and a quiet waterside park. It is a useful first look at the wider St. Augustine area beyond the historic streets and island. Drive between these three stops.
What does a normal week look like away from the bayfront?
Treaty Park
1595 Wildwood Drive, St. Augustine, FL 32086Allow 30–45 minutes
Start with the county park’s recreation spaces. The county lists a playground, nature trail, dog park and several sports facilities. Use the activity that interests you as your anchor.

Moultrie Square grocery stop
Publix at Moultrie Square, 4255 U.S. 1 S, St. Augustine, FL 32086Allow 25–40 minutes
Run a real grocery errand. It sounds small, but this is the sort of trip you will repeat long after a weekend of house hunting. Look at the connection back to the street or community you are considering.

Vaill Point Park

End with a slower park visit among trees and tidal-water scenery. The county lists trails, a playground, restrooms and a pavilion. Leave enough time to enjoy the setting rather than making this a quick photo stop.

Use the U.S. 1 South errand stop to choose a practical lunch nearby. Pay attention to entrances and turning movements; an easy-looking pin on the other side of a major road can take a different route.
One thing to check twice.
A St. Augustine mailing address does not by itself tell you whether a home is inside city limits. Verify jurisdiction, services and property-specific costs for the actual address.

Use the exact work destination and your actual departure time. Check the trip home too. A Sunday drive is useful orientation, but it cannot establish weekday traffic.
The real errands
Try groceries, pharmacy and whichever appointment or activity you repeat most. Check entrances and crossings, not just a straight-line distance on the map.
The exact address
Before comparing homes, verify school assignment if relevant, insurance quotes, flood information and the full ownership costs for each property. A neighborhood name is only the beginning of that check.
The second visit
Return at another time of day. Notice lighting, activity, parking and the route from the actual home. Write down the tradeoff you would happily accept—and the one you would not.

Can I do the historic route without driving between stops?
Yes. The suggested route parks at the downtown garage, walks to the Plaza and Lincolnville Museum, and returns to the garage. Check the walking distance and paths in your mapping app for your group. The island and mainland routes use a car between stops.
Is the St. Augustine ocean fishing pier open?
At our September 12, 2026 research check, St. Johns County listed the ocean fishing pier as closed for repairs until further notice, with the surrounding park and gift shop open. Follow the county’s current update before visiting.
